Forklift Safety in the Workplace
Course Overview
Forklifts are a very useful and efficient form of transport and materials handling in the workplace. However, they must at all times be seen as a lethal machine, and treated with respect by both those who are in control of them and others who are working around forklifts in the workplace.
There are many requirements under Australian OHS law for the safe operation, use and maintenance of forklift trucks, all of which are dependent upon the type, size and purpose of the equipment. Those who operate forklifts must have the necessary skill and knowledge to safely operate the machine in the workplace. Supervision of all forklift activity must be a high priority and procedures must be in place to eliminate or reduce the risks associated with forklift use and misuse.
This package will outline standard operational requirements for forklifts in the workplace. It will cover many of the general operating and pre-operational standards that should be implemented as part of a safe operating system.
