Accident Investigation & Reporting
Course Overview
An accident is often described as an unplanned or unexpected event or a sequence of events occurring as a result of a cause or a combination of causes. Such accidents are often caused by several factors: environmental, design, systems and procedures, or human behaviour.
Investigating all accidents, although it may seem to take valuable time to do so, should prevent the recurrence of such accidents. If the investigation process is well developed, with a specialist team of investigators trained in the workplace, small accidents can be easily reviewed in a timely manner. Getting the process in place is the key. When an incident or accident occurs, the investigation should follow soon after. A standard procedure which involves consultation and communication with the key stakeholders should be adhered to.
This package will provide the learner with the key steps in performing an accident investigation and will look at the risk management process as a means of correction of hazards in the workplace.
