Hot work is a major contributor to the risk of fire and explosion in the workplace. It exposes workers to a number of hazards that may be detrimental to health and can have both acute and chronic effects. Incidents related to hot work can also be fatal.
Because of the hazards associated with hot work, the process of controlling them is vital. Employers have a responsibility to ensure that all hazards in the workplace are identified and assessed. Part of the planning process of any task must include a risk assessment of the likely potential hazards.
