Scalpel Safety

Course Overview

Injuries resulting from the incorrect use or handling of a scalpel can be emotionally challenging, time-consuming, costly, and exposes the injured to risk from blood-borne infections such as HIV/AIDS or hepatitis B or C. As such, correctly using a scalpel, and knowing the correct handling, passing, and disposal procedures is important for everyone using or assisting in the use of a scalpel. This module is intended to teach correct scalpel handling and safety procedures, emphasise the importance of scalpel safety, and highlight the potential risks of incorrect scalpel use.
